Herkenrode Abbey

In the Experience Centre you will learn the story of one of the first and richest women's abbeys in the Low Countries. A chronological route through the fascinating history of 600 years of women at Herkenrode, for better or for worse.

The first Cistercian convent for women has its roots in the middle ages and florishes in the 16th century. The story of this spiritual village comes to an abrupt end as a result of the French revolution. Read more about the fascinating history. 

Relax and be inspired. The Herb and Inspiration Garden, two hectares big, is a contemporary herb garden with a particular architecture. You will find over 500 different herbs and herbaceous plants surrounded by canals and other water elements.

The Paardenstallen (Horse Stables) offers an honest and fresh cuisine, using regional seasonal products in a contemporary self-service concept. You can also go there as a group. The perfect place for a meal, light snack or drink.
