In Waasland, you can visit one of the few buildings by the talented self-taught Hans van der Laan. The oeuvre from this monk-architect is small, yet the principles applied remain a source of inspiration in the international world of architecture even today!

The masterpiece by Dom Hans van der Laan

Those who love architecture include the Dutch Benedictine monk Dom Hans van der Laan in the same list as Gaudí, Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier. Yet few people know that you can actually visit the masterpiece of this unique architect in Waasmunster. Here, ancient principles of abbey construction are combined with modern techniques from the 20th century.

Roosenberg Abbey is a sophisticated A to Z project from 1975: all of the interior and furnishings were also designed by van der Laan. With its balanced ratios and careful play of light and shadow, this holistically designed gem inspires reflection and connection!
